Every Life is Many Days

'"

Every Life is Many Days is a podcast about James Joyce and his family in the contemporary novel. Presented by Professor Anne Fogarty of the School of English, Drama and Film at UCD and Director of the UCD James Joyce Research Centre, the podcast looks at how the many gaps between Joyce the man and Joyce the writer have in recent years been movingly explored in a number of novels that think about his life in very different ways.

In this episode, writer Mary Costello discusses her latest novel, The River Capture, Joyce the teacher, the mystery of consciousness and much more.

Mary Costello is a novelist and short story writer from Galway. Her short story collection, The China Factory (2012), was nominated for the Guardian First Book Award. Her first novel, Academy Street (2014), was shortlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award, the Costa First Novel Prize and the EU Prize for Literature. It won the Irish Novel of the Year Award and the overall Irish Book of the Year in 2014. Her second novel, The River Capture, was released in 2019 and examines the life of a Joyce obsessive.
