Hold Open the Door is a commemorative anthology from the Ireland Chair of Poetry and UCD Press, published in 2020. The anthology marked the 25th anniversary of Seamus Heaney’s Nobel Prize award, and the subsequent legacy created by the Irish Chair of Poetry.
Edited by Mícheál McCann, Summer Meline, Marcella L.A. Prince and Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe – winners of the inaugural Ireland Chair of Poetry Student Award – with Ireland Chair of Poetry Professor Frank Ormsby acting as contributing editor, the anthology features original poems and essays from some of the most exciting new and emerging Irish writers as they reflect on the formative value of mentorship and creative exchange, drawing inspiration from renowned poets and artists across the island of Ireland and beyond.
Presented by Professor Margaret Kelleher, Chair of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at the School of English, Drama and Film in UCD, the Hold Open the Door podcast is a series of conversations with contributors to the anthology.
This episode features poets Nithy Kasa and Jean O’Brien in conversation about learning not to be strong, teaching creative writing, writing in English as a fourth language, and finding trusted readers – as well as readings from both poets.
