‘The Painter on his Bike’

Words Lightly Spoken

3'36"

In this episode of Words Lightly Spoken, Enda Wyley reads her poem ‘The Painter’ on his Bike.

Inspired by the portrait artist James Hanley, Enda had brought him in to talk to a class of Transition Year students in Synge Street Secondary School, Dublin. In the room, he made a passing comment about his father that awoke something in Enda. Afterwards, as she watched James cycle away, she knew she had to write about him and what he had said in the classroom. Enda’s work is published by Dedalus Press.

Words Lightly Spoken, a podcast about poetry from Ireland, is a Rockfinch production, funded by the Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
