In contrast to a conventional theatre show, the immersive nature of The Dead means that audience capacity is limited to just 75 people at a time.  As a result, the experience for each audience member is uniquely intimate.

What does it mean when you say the show is immersive? Will there be audience participation?

The audience will move with and around the actors, through several of the historic rooms at MoLI.  Audience members will have full autonomy. They may be addressed by the actors – for example, when they arrive in the hallway of 85 St Stephen’s Green, they will be greeted by the maid Lily, who will take their coats before they journey up the opulent staircase – but there is never any obligation to respond or participate.

What is the running time of the show?

The performance will run for 75 minutes.

I have restricted mobility.  How accessible is the performance?

The Dead takes place in the historic rooms of 85 St Stephen’s Green. While MoLI’s exhibitions are wheelchair accessible, the route for The Dead is not wheelchair accessible. The audience will travel up several staircases in the course of the production – from the steps leading up to the front door, to the opulent staircase in the entrance hall, through a secret passage, and then up to the James Joyce Classroom at the very top of the house.

There will be chairs and other places for a number of audience members to sit in each of the rooms.
