In partnership with UCD Library Special Collections.
Ink and Imagination featured very special items from the UCD LIbrary Special Collections. More than 500 years of creativity was represented in this exhibition of items – you could see archives that reveal literary work as it was being written, beautiful rare books cherished for many decades, today’s poets reading their own poems – and much more.
As visitors explored the displays, they were met with very early printed books, manuscripts by Irish writer Edna O’Brien written on hotel notepaper, very special and rare poetry editions, and even a letter from the founding rector of the University, John Henry Newman, who was canonised in 2019.
This UCD Special Collections collaboration explored the delicate art of preservation, and the stunning creativity contained within the preserved books, folios, letters, ephemera and many other forms and variations of literature within the vast and diverse collection.
