Running at MoLI across the weekend of 7-9 June 2024, HOMESWEETHOME is a multidisciplinary festival circling the theme of home – a many-layered, and ever present subject for Dubliners, and one that inspires at least as many questions as there are answers. Taking place across the museum’s exhibitions and historic house, and with programmes designed for all ages, the festival will explore new perspectives on the central question of ‘What is home?’ through talks, discussion, performances, music, workshops, food, and more.
Throughout HOMESWEETHOME, people from many walks of life will share their experiences of home – imagining home, finding home, remembering home, writing home. The festival will explore concepts of home as diverse as family, identity, migration, shifting demographics, human rights, land access, architecture, gentrification, homelessness and housing crises. HOMESWEETHOME will channel the lived experiences of many, and the unique perspectives of people from across society, including, of course, writers.
HOMESWEETHOME is presented as part of ULYSSES European Odyssey, an epic project across 18 cities producing artistic responses to social and cultural themes identified in James Joyce’s Ulysses. Find out more at ulysseseurope.eu

A conversation bringing together authors Anne Enright and David Hayden and songwriter Adrian Crowley on finding home in the written word and song, led by literary scholar Dr. Katie Mishler.

Exploring the home of the future in a discussion between writer Roisin Kiberd, architect Marcus Donaghy, and musician Natalia Beylis, led by professor of philosophy Katherine O’Donnell.

Taking place in MoLI’s Old Physics Theatre across two days, What is Home? revolves around short talks by Dubliners from many different walks of life – each addressing the question of ‘What is Home?’ from their own distinctive outlook and experience. Join author Oein DeBhairduin in a bi-lingual workshop to explore his magical book The Slug and the Snail, in which two slugs search for home. Throughout the festival, we encourage you contribute their own questions and prompts towards the idea of home in a contemporary Europe; these will be gathered from throughout the festival and will form part of a publication produced by our parent project, ULYSSES European Odyssey, as a kind of snapshot of this current cultural moment in Europe.
