This will be a unique opportunity to see MoLI’s exhibition film of Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis on the big screen at the Irish Film Institute, as well as to learn more about the project through a Q&A with several of the film’s creators.
One of the greatest love letters ever written, Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis was the only work that the Irish writer completed during his two-year imprisonment. Now, 125 years after Wilde’s death, MoLI is proud to present a new film installation rediscovering this moving and richly layered text. Addressed to Lord Alfred Douglas – or Bosie – whose presence in Wilde’s life was the catalyst for his incarceration for ‘gross indecency’, De Profundis shows a less visible side to Wilde’s writing and personality.
The screening is 60 minutes in duration, and will be followed by a Q&A featuring Prof. Margaret Kelleher (UCD), writer Katherine O’Donnell, and MoLI’s Benedict Schlepper-Connolly.
Presented by MoLI together with the Oscariana and the Irish Film Institute, and in partnership with Ebow Digital.
