The Moth

A Decade of New Irish Writing

April 2020

Ireland has a long history of fine literary journals and magazines. Established in 2010, The Moth publishes poetry, fiction, contemporary art and interviews. It is produced in rural Cavan by Rebecca O’Connor and Will Govan, in their office next to The Moth Retreat for artists and writers. They also publish The Caterpillar, a junior counterpart to The Moth, and run several prizes, including The Moth Poetry Prize, one of the biggest in the world for a single poem.

To celebrate their tenth birthday in 2020, MoLI presented a small selection of photographs of fifteen contemporary Irish writers (taken by Will), and some interesting thoughts from the writers themselves, as featured in the magazine. The featured writers included internationally acclaimed authors such as Sally Rooney and Kevin Barry.
