Ulysses by Design explores the visual history of the novel through editions published around the world. From the famous blue of the first Shakespeare and Company edition to bold modernist covers, illustrated editions, manga and contemporary interpretations, discover how the look of Ulysses has evolved over more than a century. Along the way, Henri Matisse was commissioned by George Macy to illustrate a deluxe edition, while designer Carin Goldberg (then famous as the art director behind Madonna’s debut album) created her own striking Ulysses cover in 1986.
